TV companies worldwide have jumped on Too Close, the new British psychological thriller featuring Chernobyl star Emily Watson.
All3Media International, which is handling worldwide sales for the three-part drama, said Wednesday that Too Close has nearly sold out worldwide, with deals across Asia, Europe and Australia/New Zealand. Among the broadcasters that have boarded the project are HBO Central Europe, which picked up rights in central Europe and the Balkans; BBC Studios Asia, which will screen the series across Asia on its SVOD service BBC First; and BBC Studios ANZ, which acquired the show for Australia and New Zealand. All3Media also closed deals with several European public broadcasters, including NPO in the Netherlands, DR in Denmark and YLE in Finland.
AMC Networks has picked up the series for its AMC+ service and will bow Too Close exclusively across North and South America (excluding Brazil), as well as Central America, Portugal and Spain. The series will drop on AMC+ in the U.S. later this month and roll out worldwide later this year.
Produced by British shingle Snowed-In Productions, Too Close premiered April 12 on ITV in the U.K., drawing 4.8 million viewers and a 20.6 percent share.
Watson plays a forensic psychiatrist tasked with assessing the legal culpability of Connie (Olivier Award winner Denise Gough), a woman facing trial for a horrendous crime who claims to have no memory of the event. But their therapy sessions take a darker turn as the woman begins to draw her doctor into a complex psychological game. Based on the novel of the same name by Clara Salaman, Too Close was executive produced by Snowed-In’s Ruth Kenley-Letts (Mrs. Wilson).
Too Close was one of the drama highlights at last month’s digital MIPTV international television market.
