The Creative Arts Emmys held Saturday night at the Nokia Theater downtown gave out awards for guest stars (Kathy Bates, Jeremy Davies) and other TV honors too numerous to mention that could not be sandwiched into the Sunday night September 23 telecast of the actual Emmy awards. But it also hinted at gown trends we could be seeing next Sunday.
The two standouts were the peach and black ribbon-shouldered floral print Jenny Packham gown Christina Hendricks arrived in. It was such a different look for the curvaceous redhead that she really stood out — it has innocence and charm, and we rarely see prints on awards show red carpets. It was full-skirted with a tight waist and shoulder detail, and as we saw in so many prints on the spring 2013 runways at New York Fashion Week, Hendrick’s outstanding and unique gown might have some imitators next Sunday. Meanwhile, Packham’s spring 2013 collection shown in New York last week took a very different path — and it went sleek, sixties and very chic simple.
Meanwhile, Homeland’s Morena Baccarin donned this firey red corset gown with a lot of illusion insets. We don’t know the designer of it yet, but strong bold colors and illusion textures are a big fall 2012 statement. Not everybody could get away with wearing a dress this sexy and tight, but Baccarin clearly knows what works on her, and her star is definitely rising after wearing this hot little number on a very hot day. We’ll be noticing her a lot more on the red carpet after this fab photo opp.
