Seven of TV’s best comedies are pitted against each other for the top prize in small-screen laughs at the upcoming 68th Emmy Awards.
HBO’s political satire Veep took home the winged angel last year, putting an end to Modern Family‘s five-year domination of the category. Modern Family is looking to gain that spot back this year, with its seventh total nomination for outstanding comedy series.
HBO’s Veep isn’t the only offering from the premium cabler in the comedy category this year, as Mike Judge’s lampoon of the Northern California tech industry, Silicon Valley, earned its third straight nomination.
It’s not only traditional television providers who are making waves in comedy this year. Streaming giant Netflix landed a second nomination for the quirky, Tina Fey-produced Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and a mention for Aziz Ansari’s Master of None, while Amazon also scored its second consecutive nom for dramedy Transparent.
Rounding out the list of nominees this year is ABC’s Black-ish. The family comedy, heading into its third season, picked up its first mention in the category this year.
Which show do you think should take home this year’s comedy crown? Cast your vote in the poll below and check back to see if your selection is the one to beat come Emmy night on Sept. 18. And you can also cast your vote for best drama series.
