Sunday’s Emmys ceremony paid tribute to the many beloved TV figures who died in the past year, but a few notable names were omitted.
Among those included in the segment were Leonard Nimoy, Joan Rivers, Edward Herrmann, Frank Gifford, Dick Van Patten, Dean Jones, Jerry Weintraub, Wes Craven, Mike Nichols, ESPN’s Stuart Scott and Simpsons producer Sam Simon.
Among those not included were the following five individuals:
Lee died June 7, 2015, and was best known for film work, including roles in the Lord of the Rings films and the Star Wars prequels and playing Dracula in the Hammer horror films. But he had recurring roles on the 1990s TV series The New Adventures of Robin Hood and The Tomorrow People and appeared on episodes of Charlie’s Angels and The Avengers, among numerous other series.
Powers, who died April 6, 2015, played Thelma’s husband, Keith, on the final season of Good Times. He was also a castmember on the 1970s variety series Laugh-In.
The prolific composer died June 22, 2015, and was, like Lee, best known for his film work, having written the scores for Braveheart, Apollo 13 and Avatar. He also won two Oscars for his Titanic music. However, he has several notable TV credits, writing the theme for CBS Evening News and the themes for such 1990s series as Crossroads and Fish Police.
The actress was best known for her role as Batgirl in the 1960s series Batman and for appearing on Star Trek. However, given that she died on August 17, 2015, it is possible that the “In Memoriam” segment had already been completed before her death.
Piper, who died July 31, 2015, is best known as a wrestler who competed with the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling. He also had a recurring role on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and appeared on such series as Walker Texas Ranger, The Outer Limits, Highlander, Cold Case and Breaking In.
