It wasn’t a happy morning for everyone Thursday when the nominations for the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced.
While new shows like Transparent, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Better Call Saul were able to break through in a big way, other awards darlings like The Good Wife and Girls were shockingly left out.
Both shows failed to receive series nods, as well as recognition for stars Julianna Margulies and Lena Dunham, respectively. The Big Bang Theory also failed to receive nominations for best comedy series and best lead actor in a comedy for previous winner Jim Parsons.
In addition to those veteran shows, other heavily favored newcomers like Empire and Jane the Virgin also failed to receive series recognition. The latter series also failed to secure a nod for star Gina Rodriguez, despite her win at the Golden Globes. The Affair‘s Ruth Wilson was also shut out despite winning a Golden Globe for her performance.
The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on Sept. 20. The Fox telecast is being hosted by Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg, again taping at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Many of the nominees, most notably those in the guest actor and actress races, will be honored the week prior at the Sept. 12 Creative Arts Emmys.
