Paul Drinkwater/NBCAmy Poehler and Tina Fey broke ground Saturday night by sharing the win for the best guest actress in a comedy series at the Creative Arts Emmys, a first in the award’s history.
The two actresses have shared nominations in two other categories before, one for co-writing and one for co-hosting the Golden Globe Awards, but this win marks a milestone for the continuous work they do together.
Their co-hosting of Saturday Night Live on Dec. 19, in which Fey and Poehler performed a sketch of an imagined conversation between Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin, won them the award. Co-hosting of Saturday Night Live is a rare event in itself. Prior to Fey and Poehler, co-hosting was only done twice in the 2000s, once by Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey and once by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Last year, Joan Cusack took home the award for best guest actress in a comedy series for her role as Sheila Jackson on Showtime’s Shameless.
Saturday was the first night of the Creative Arts Emmys. The awards show is being split over two nights for the first time in Emmy history. The awards honor outstanding achievements in television program genres, guest performances in weekly series, work in animation and other categories.
