Family Guy hit the Emmy campaign trail this week with a predictably racy For Your Consideration spot, though the Fox comedy made the somewhat surprising choice to target one of its competitors in the spoof.
The full page, which was paid for by Twentieth Century Fox TV and appears in the June 21 issue of The Hollywood Reporter, depicts Family Guy characters Brian, Quagmire, Peter and Joe posing as Girls actresses Jemima Kirke, Allison Williams, Lena Dunham and Zosia Mamet, respectively.

“Here’s a load of comedy to shoot on your chest,” reads the add, no doubt a reference to Girls‘ sophomore season effort, “On All Fours.” The episode in question became the subject of many a bashful watercooler conversation after Adam Driver‘s character ejaculated on the woman he was dating (Shiri Appleby).
This is hardly the first time. Last year, Family Guy drew the ire of TV producers when it sent a similarly controversial ad — rejected by THR and Variety — in its mailer to Emmy voters. “Come on, you bloated, overprivileged Brentwood Jews. Let us into your little club,” read the ad.

In spoofing Girls, Family Guy also is taking a shot at one of its strongest competitors. Unlike most animated series, Family Guy regularly is submitted in the race for overall best comedy series. It hasn’t scored a nomination in the category since 2009 — unlike Girls, which brought in a best comedy nom in 2012 and went on to win a Golden Globe in the same category.
