The red carpet at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards is sweltering, topping out at more than 98 degrees, and stars are struggling with the heat.
According to Emmy red-carpet attendees, Fiji Water bottles are scattered throughout the venue and some stars are sweating through tuxes, including Mad Men‘s John Slattery and Trevor Noah, whose publicist was seen dabbing Noah’s face with a tissue.
“I’m trying to move as little as possible and do as few interviews as possible,” Liev Schreiber, who’s nominated for lead actor in a drama series for Showtime’s Ray Donovan, told The Hollywood Reporter.
When asked for advice on dealing with the sweltering temps, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver quipped, “Don’t be British — cause you body, skin and glands can’t handle it. So be as un-British as possible — because I am evaporating.”
“It’s amazing that there’s this many people trying to prevent themselves from sweating,” House of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon told THR. “At least we’re all in it together.”
Lead actress in a drama nominee Taraji P. Henson started fanning herself while speaking with Ryan Seacrest, while Ellie Kemper admitted that the weather had made her alter her wardrobe. “My dress originally had sleeves on it,” Kemper told THR. “Then we looked at the forecast and realized it was going to be hot so we cut those off. Well, I didn’t do it — it was done with skill.”
When it came to preserving appearances on the carpet, blotting became a priority.
“I wasn’t expecting it to be this hot,” said Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner. “I need some, like, tissues. I need to blot my face. But it’s good. I’m dealing with it. I think I should have worn a short miniskirt instead.”
On the E! red-carpet show, lead actor in a drama series nominee Kevin Spacey predicted that the heat would continue to affect stars inside the venue. “We’ll all look terrible,” said the House of Cards star.
Mom‘s Allison Janney proved that she was one of the stars still recovering even after she hit the Emmy stage to accept the first award of the evening for best supporting actress in a comedy series.
“Apparently I just brought my blotting thing up with me,” said Janney. “You know what that was like out there. I’m just starting to cool down.”
Here’s how some of the A-listers are beating — or sizzling in — the hot weather.
