Well, this is embarrassing. A slew of winners forgot to thank some Hollywood bigwigs at Monday’s 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Upon scoring the Emmy for drama series directing, True Detective‘s Cary Fukunaga joked that “you’re going to need a broom for the names I’m about to drop.” Not among them? Creator and sole writer Nic Pizzolatto, along with his stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
Maybe Modern Family‘s Steven Levitan is getting too used to accepting the top comedy prize. For his fifth consecutive speech, he neglected to thank ABC, studio 20th TV or even co-creator and co-showrunner Christopher Lloyd.
As Bertram van Munster accepted for best reality competition for The Amazing Race, he ignored executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who was standing directly behind him clutching the Emmy.
The Good Wife lead actress Julianna Margulies thanked creators Michelle and Robert King and made sure to note that the broadcast drama does 22 episodes per season. Not thanked: CBS execs who produce and air the drama.
Fargo writer and executive producer Noah Hawley made mention of one of his kids but left out his wife; Breaking Bad supporting actress Anna Gunn got her mom and dad in but forgot her kids.
And Veep actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus thanked HBO because, as she noted, “Honestly, I’ve worked in a lot of places in this town, and it’s absolutely my favorite place I’ve ever worked.” Yes, that includes her longtime Seinfeld home, NBC, which was airing the Emmys. Oops.
