Heading into Sunday’s 68th annual Primetime Emmys, HBO and Game of Thrones led the pack — and the premium cable network and its take on George R.R. Martin’s book series added to their overall leads. Both HBO and Thrones retained their perches, leading both wins by network and by program for the second year in a row.
This marked the fourth year in a row that the premium cable network led the pack, with Thrones leading the show field for its second. The fantasy drama, which last year topped The West Wing and set a record for the most wins by a series in a single year (12), added the same sum this year. (Click here to see how all the contenders fared heading into the this year’s Emmys.)
