‘The End of the F***ing World’ Gets Second-Season Order From Netflix, Channel 4

The End of the F***ing World, the BAFTA-nominated British dark comedy-drama, has been recommissioned for a second season by Netflix and British broadcaster Channel 4.

The news was announced by Channel 4 on the first day of the Edinburgh TV Festival, with the network claiming the first season was the best-performing exclusive single series and the most binged show of any exclusive single series on its All4 streaming service. 

The first season saw teen outsiders James and Alyssa, respectively played by Alex Lawther (Black Mirror, The Imitation Game) and Jessica Barden (The Lobster, Penny Dreadful), embark on a road trip that descends into darkly comic chaos. After finding themselves embroiled in a series of violent events, they are soon trailed by two uniquely mismatched police detectives, played by BAFTA winner Wunmi Mosaku (Damilola, Our Loved Boy; Kiri) and Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones, Upstart Crow).

“Lurching between black and joyous, The End of The F***ing World was one of the most original and beguiling pieces of drama to emerge from Britain in years,” said Channel 4 director of programs Ian Katz. “I’m so proud that Channel 4 brought it to the screen and beyond excited that Charlie and the brilliant team at Clerkenwell are giving us a second helping.”

Season two of The End of the F***ing World will be written by Charlie Covell and inspired by the characters from the award-winning series of comic books by Charles Forsman.

The show is being produced by Clerkenwell Films and Dominic Buchanan Productions, with Murray Ferguson, Ed Macdonald, Andy Baker, Charlie Covell, Dominic Buchanan and Jonathan Entwistle serving as exec producers. The series was commissioned by Beth Willis, Channel 4’s head of drama, and Lee Mason, Channel 4 drama commissioning executive.
