Peacock is moving deeper into sports programming, greenlighting its first daily show with journalists and longtime friends Michael Smith and Michael Holley and launching a dedicated sports channel on the service.
Smith, a veteran of ESPN, has also signed a development deal with the NBCUniversal streaming platform, under which he’ll produce content for Peacock via his Inflection Point Entertainment.
Holley and Smith will host and co-executive produce Brother From Another With Holley and Smith, which is set to debut in September. The three-hour daily show will stream at 3 p.m. ET on the newly launched NBC Sports on Peacock channel, with the two hosts discussing the latest news from the worlds of sports, culture, entertainment and politics.
“Michael and I couldn’t be more excited to join the Peacock family,” said Smith. “When coming up with our show’s name and thinking about the vibe we wanted to create, we kept coming back to just that — family — and to this brotherhood. We want this show and the conversations between us and with our guests to feel relatable — literally. As in if you’re giving us time out of your day, then you’re family to us. And since Peacock is free, all are most definitely welcome.”
Said Holley, “Mike and I go back more than 20 years, so viewers will immediately sense our authenticity and honesty with one another. We became colleagues by covering similar events in sports. We became brothers when we shared our experiences in that space, as well as other aspects of our lives. We’re excited to now bring our discussions to Peacock.”
NBC Sports on Peacock will be part of the service’s free tier and will also feature live daily streams of Pro Football Talk Live With Mike Florio, The Dan Patrick Show and The Rich Eisen Show. A second Pro Football Talk show, PFT PM, will focus on NFL news of the day and also debut in September.
“There’s certainly an appetite for honest, intelligent conversation while having some fun, and Michael and Michael have established reputations for delivering that kind of commentary,” said Rick Cordella, executive vp and chief revenue officer at Peacock. “Peacock is always on, always topical, so we are proud to be the exclusive platform for their new show.”
Smith joins NBC Sports after a 15-year tenure at ESPN, where he reported on the NFL and co-anchored SportsCenter, among other work. Brother From Another is produced by NBC Sports.
