Extra is filling its co-host void with two familiar faces.
Special correspondents Charissa Thompson and Tracey Edmonds will replace Maria Menounos as co-hosts alongside Mario Lopez, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. They will begin Sept. 8.
Renee Bargh will remain on as weekend co-host.
Menounos departed in May, signing an overall deal with E! and inking a first-look pact with the NBCUniversal-owned network that includes hosting Untold With Maria Menounos, a new hourlong entertainment news series.

“Tracey Edmonds is one of the most accomplished television forces in Hollywood. She is already a star with A-list relationships. Charissa Thompson is one of the quickest, sharpest and best interviewers on sports TV and was born to juggle the demands of fast-paced television,” said Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey in the announcement. “From the moment I put Tracey and Charissa on stage with Mario, their chemistry was off the charts. They are generous with each other, they complement Mario, and together they will be an unstoppable team that will take ‘Extra’ into the future.”
Thompson previously appeared on Extra in April as a special correspondent. She has hosted Fox Sports Live on the new Fox Sports 1. She’s had stints as a host and sportscaster with Versus, GSN and the Big Ten Network. Thompson also co-hosted ABC’s reality competition series Splash, alongside Joey Lawrence. The ESPN alum also co-hosted Numbers Never Lie on ESPN as and replaced Michelle Beadle as host of SportsNation.
“Working for Extra has always been a dream job for me. I met with Lisa G a few years ago and she didn’t hire me — actually I’m not sure if she remembered me. I made it a goal of mine to work hard and get back in front of her to knock her socks off, and I guess I made a better second impression. Now everything has come full circle. I am so excited to be joining Extra and can’t wait to get started with Mario and Tracey and the whole team,” said Thompson in a statement.
For her part, Edmonds has appeared as a correspondent a handful of times in April on Extra. She is CEO of Edmonds Entertainment Group and COO of Our Stories Films. She’s on the board of directors at the Producers Guild of America. She’s currently an exec producer on OWN’s Deion Sanders reality show Deion’s Family Playbook, where she appears as herself. (She’s romantically linked to the former NFL and Major League Baseball star.) She has produced features including Good Luck Chuck, Josie and the Pussycats as well as TV series College Hill and more.
Edmonds said in a statement: “I am thrilled to join Extra and am so excited about being a part of such a dynamic and progressive entertainment show. I look forward to working with Mario, Charissa, Lisa G and her whole team. Extra already set the bar high, but I look forward to contributing new ideas and exploring new horizons on the show as I enter the next chapter of my career.”
Both Thompson and Edmonds are repped by CAA, with the latter also repped by Fox Rothschild.
