If you’ve missed the city-meets-country antics of Planet Green’s The Fabulous Beekman Boys, then this should make you smile.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the series starring Former Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia vp Brent Ridge and drag queen-turned-ad executive Josh Kilmer-Purcell will be moving to The Cooking Channel later this year. The network will re-air the first two seasons with additional footage.
“We really enjoyed working with the team at Planet Green and Discovery, but unfortunately the Planet Green network is leaving the airwaves and will cease to exist,” the stars tell THR in a statement. “As a result, The Fabulous Beekman Boys would have been left without a home.”
“We are grateful to our friends and fans who have been very supportive and passionate, insisting that the show return,” the statement continues. “Networks took note and recognized the value of the show as a franchise and we are thrilled to inform you that we have found a new home for the show. We are now officially part of the Scripps family of networks and will return to television later this year on The Cooking Channel.”
Planet Green announced this week that it was rebranding itself as Destination America. While the show’s stars say that Planet Green dropped the series as part of its rebrand, the network told USA Today it wasn’t renewed due to low ratings.
In the time since Season 2, the guys got engaged and are currently planning their wedding. Their cookbook, The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook, became a bestseller and they also released a memoir, The Bucolic Plague, which is being developed into a scripted series by One Two Punch Productions with a first look deal with Sony Television. They also recently signed a licensing deal for Beekman 1802 with Brand Central.
Also, Josh and Brent may appear on the fifth season of The Real Housewives of New York. Cast member Sonja Morgan is a friend and Bravo’s cameras were there for the engagement and a GLAAD event they attended together.
