The first trailer for MTV’s new scripted comedy Faking It has hit the web.
Faking It follows two unpopular best friends, Karma (Katie Stevens) and Amy (Rita Volk), who are mistakenly outed as lesbians in high school, catapulting them to instant popularity that prompts them to keep up their romantic ruse.

The minute-long promo opens with the two desperate for social attention: “We’ve tried joining every clique in the school — even the ‘Teen Moms’! We gotta try something new.” When they get invited to a high school party, one of their classmates believes that they’re closet lesbians, so much so that they get the bright idea to play up their pairing: “Let’s elect them Homecoming Queens!”
Of course, an attractive guy, Liam (Gregg Sulkin), complicates matters for the BFFs. “Straight guys love lesbians — just watch any porno,” Karma says. When the truth comes out that they’ve been pretending all this time, Amy and Karma take drastic action.
Creator Carter Covington addressed worries over the series premise in January, telling reporters at winter TCA, “I feel like for teenagers these days and for the MTV audience, the show is not going to be controversial. It’s going to be an exaggerated version but very much based on the world they live in now.”

Faking It premieres April 22 at 10:30 p.m. on MTV.
