TORONTO — Having lost his fraud appeal, disgraced Canadian media baron Conrad Black is headed back to the pokey.
In a Chicago courtroom Friday, Judge Amy St. Eve resentenced Black to a 42 month sentence for two convictions stemming from the sale of Hollinger International newspapers, including the 2000 sale of 13 major Canadian newspapers to then Canadian broadcaster CanWest Global Communications for $3.04 billion.
Black’s wife, Barbara Amiel, collapsed in court as the latest court judgement against Black was read out.
The return to jail follows the U.S. Supreme Court upholding a lower court decision to retain two 2007 convictions, while throwing out two other fraud convictions against Black.
Black earlier served 29 months of a six-and-half year jail term in a Florida prison, and so will remain in jail for another 12 months before being finally set free.
