CBS continues to beef up the cast for the planted NCIS spinoff. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Lucas Black has boarded the project as a series regular.
He’ll play NCIS Special Agent Lasalle, a no-nonsense agent with a “work hard, play hard” motto. Lasalle is a longtime resident of New Orleans, where the spinoff is set.

Black, who appeared in Friday Night Lights (the 2004 film) and 42, is perhaps best known for his starring role in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, the third film in the ongoing franchise. Though Tokyo Drift has been Black’s sole Fast credit to date, the actor will appear in the upcoming Fast & Furious 7 — now set for an April 10, 2015, release after the death of Paul Walker halted production.
The addition comes a week after CBS tapped Scott Bakula for the starring role. The two-part planted pilot, set for a spring debut, centers on the NCIS New Orleans office. The group handles cases from Pensacola, Fla., through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle. NCIS showrunner Gary Glasberg and star Mark Harmon serve as executive produces. C.C.H. Pounder and Zoe McLellan are also attached to co-star.
NCIS already has a hit spinoff in NCIS: Los Angeles. The parent series attempted to launch another spinoff, NCIS Red, with a backdoor pilot last spring. It did not go any further.
Black is repped by ICM Partners.
