After less than 24 hours of speculation, Jalopnik reports that the brand responsible for the nameless ad is Honda.
“A source familiar with Honda’s operations hinted to us earlier this year that the company was going to do a Ferris Bueller-style ad for the Super Bowl starring none other than Matthew Broderick,” writes the auto-centric blog, adding The Hangover writer/director Todd Phillips may be behind it.
YouTube account “chuckachucka2012” (a reference to film tune “Oh Yeah” by Yello) posted the teaser Thursday morning and its already received nearly 1.3 million views. It shows Broderick taking in the morning view out of a bedroom window and asking, in familiar Ferris fashion, “How can I handle work on a day like today?”
The video’s summary promises a full spot on Super Bowl Sunday — and a hint that more details might come on Monday (Jan. 30).
For Honda’s part, the company isn’t denying involvement. In a follow-up story, Jalopnik noted that a company spokesman wouldn’t comment on the viral Ferris bait but confirmed that they will indeed airing a spot during the Super Bowl.
And keeping with the messaging from the mysterious chuckachucka2012, Honda said more information would be available Monday.
