With production wrapped in July on the second installment of Jane Campion’s miniseries Top of the Lake: China Girl, Sundance TV has released a first-look image of Elisabeth Moss reprising her Golden Globe–winning role as detective Robin Griffin.
In Top of the Lake: China Girl, the action moves from New Zealand to Australia, four years on from the explosive ending of series one. When the unidentified body of an Asian girl washes up on Sydney’s Bondi Beach, the case seems hopeless. Griffin discovers that ‘China Girl’ didn’t die alone.
Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie and Nicole Kidman also star in the series.
Campion has co-written the new season with longtime collaborator Gerard Lee and is executive producing with See-Saw Films as well as directing. Also directing several episodes is Ariel Kleinman, who replaces Lion helmer Garth Davis.
The limited-run series is produced by See-Saw for BBC Two in association with BBC First in Australia, BBC UKTV in New Zealand, SundanceTV and Hulu in the United States, ARTE in France and BBC Worldwide.
Top of the Lake: China Girl will air in 2017.
