Comedian-actress Fortune Feimster is reteaming with 30 Rock‘s Tina Fey, Matt Hubbard and Robert Carlock and ABC.
The quartet, who met on Fox’s Cabot College, are teaming for a semi-autobiographical comedy based on Feimster’s life, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
In a competitive situation with multiple networks bidding, ABC has handed out a script with penalty commitment for the multicamera comedy, which was co-created by Feimster and Hubbard. The untitled entry is set in North Carolina, where Feimster grew up, and is based on her family life and stand-up comedy.
Feimster, who will star, and Hubbard will pen the script. Hubbard will exec produce the comedy alongside Carlock, Fey and 3 Arts’ David Miner. The comedy hails from Universal Television, where Hubbard, Carlock and Fey have overall deals. Feimster is also attached as a co-exec producer.
The comedy reunites Feimster with Fey, Carlock and Hubbard. The former Chelsea Lately regular exited the late-night series for her co-starring role in women’s college entry Cabot College, Fox’s multicamera comedy that Hubbard penned and exec produced alongside Fey and Carlock for Universal TV. In that comedy, which was expected to get a six-episode order under former network president Kevin Reilly, the openly gay Feimster played an out sophomore and three-sport varsity athlete. The role closely resembled her own background: Feimster graduated from women’s college Peace College in North Carolina and plays softball, soccer and tennis.
The new comedy comes two years after Feimster developed Discounted — a comedy she wrote, exec produced and was poised to star in — set up at ABC with Chelsea Handler attached. She’s repped by Gersh, Truhett Garcia Management and Lev Ginsburg.
For Fey, the Feimster comedy marks her first sale of the development season. The actress-producer also is behind NBC comedy The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which is slotted for midseason.
Feimster, whose TV credits also include episodes of Mulaney, Workaholics and 2 Broke Girls, is repped by Gersh and Truhett/Garcia. Fey is with WME, 3 Arts and Ziffren Brittenham. Hubbard is with UTA and Hansen Jacobson.
