Fox is ready to explore the world of hip-hop clothing.
The network is teaming with comedy vet David Bickel for comedy White Jeff, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The multicamera comedy, which earned a script commitment at the network, centers on a button-down CPA who becomes the only white person working at a hip-hop clothing company founded by an eccentric rapper.
Bickel (The King of Queens, The Soul Man) will pen the script and executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television comedy.
In addition to his TV work, Bickel is the author of the best-selling book Creepiosity, which is also being developed for TV by Renegade 83. He’s repped by Gersh and Ziffren Brittenham.
White Jeff comes as high-concept comedies have been all the rage this development season as broadcasters look to break through the clutter with out-of-the-box fare inspired by Fox’s Last Man on Earth.
For Fox, White Jeff arrives as the network has found ratings gold with hip-hop drama Empire, which also has inspired a wave of soaps at the broadcast level.
