Fox is taking full advantage of the upcoming holiday break.
The network announced Monday that it will offer viewers an early preview of rookie comedy Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life and freshman drama Second Chance this month on multiple digital platforms, including Hulu, YouTube, the Fox Now app as well as on Fox’s on demand channel.
Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life, which hails from Gail Berman’s The Jackal Group, is available beginning Monday through Sunday. Second Chance, a modern take on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, will run online Friday through Wednesday, Jan. 6.
The effort to grab eyeballs early and built recognition for both shows comes ahead of a busy month of premieres. Cooper Barrett will have its linear premiere on Sunday, Jan. 3, followed by Second Chance on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
For Fox, the extra push for Cooper Barrett is no surprise given the network’s confidence in the single-camera comedy. Fox ordered seven additional episodes back in September, adding on to the original six-episode order. Second Chance on the other hand, which was formerly named Lookinglass, saw its episode order trimmed back to 11 from 13.
ABC is trying a similar tactic for one of its big January launches. The network has made the first episode of the second season of acclaimed anthology drama American Crime available for free on iTunes.
