Fox News Channel is launching a new panel program with a gender hook. Outnumbered, which launches on the cable news network April 28, will feature a rotating panel of four women and just one man.
The appropriately titled entry will air in the noon hour, splitting Happening Now, co-anchored by Jon Scott and Jenna Lee, into two one-hour news blocks at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“Outnumbered combines a distinctive group of Fox talent with unique experiences and insights that will make for compelling news programming,” said senior vp news Jay Wallace. “We look forward to once again pushing the envelope with the addition of this new show and are confident the revised lineup will only strengthen the FNC brand.”
It’s not a surprising choice for Fox. The network has seen huge success with panel program The Five. In just three years, it’s become the No. 2 program on all of cable news, outperformed only by The O’Reilly Factor.
Female-centric panels also remain solid ratings bets — with the all-female talent of The View, The Talk and now The Real doing well in the daytime hours.
Outnumbered won’t include the same five individuals every day, panelists will rotate in and out, but Fox Report Weekend anchor Harris Faulkner and Fox Business Network’s Sandra Smith will be two of the rotating members to lead the news coverage.
Fox News fixtures Kimberly Guilfoyle, Andrea Tantaros, Jedediah Bila, Katie Pavlich and Kirsten Powers are among others who are confirmed to appear.
