Fox’s Bones will stick around on Fox for another year.
The veteran procedural, which has had an abbreviated and split seventh season because lead Emily Deschanel had a baby, was renewed Thursday for another run.
It marks the first official order for the 2012-13 season from Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly.

“Over the past seven seasons, [series creator] Hart Hanson, [writer] Stephen Nathan and the incredible Bones cast and crew have redefined the traditional crime procedural with an irreverent and adventurous sensibility,” said Reilly. “I’m really happy to have this distinctive fan favorite on our schedule for another season.”
Despite the series’ age and unconventional run during its current season, Reilly spoke optimistically of its future during the winter Television Critics Association press tour in January. Hanson also had echoed his hope for more life to the series, acknowledging he could see storylines taking Bones through a 10th season.
Spinoff The Finder recently premiered in Bones‘ former Thursday time slot but has since been moved to Fridays, having not matched its parent series’ consistent showing in the ratings.
Bones, which also stars David Boreanaz, returns from its winter hiatus at 8 p.m. Monday, in a new night and time.
