Fox’s Navy drama Wild Blue is assembling is upper ranks.
The pilot from Justified‘s Taylor Elmore and Graham Yost has cast The Bold and the Beautiful‘s Gina Rodriguez as its female lead, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
ER, The West Wing and Top Gun collide in the young ensemble about the working men and women on board a U.S. aircraft carrier. Equipped with a 500-foot landing strip, a nuclear reactor and 6,000 souls on board, the drama is an upstairs/downstairs look at pressure-cooker lives of the Navy.
Rodriguez will play Pilar “Maytag” Robles, an overachiever seemingly born to be a Naval open aviator. She’s athletic and graceful but by no means a pushover who is smart, driven and unafraid to fight for what she believes is right and fair.
Elmore will write and co-executive produce the Sony Pictures Television drama alongside Yost, Mark Johnson and Michael Dinner. Melissa Bernstein will co-exec produce, with Dinner on board to direct.
Rodriguez, whose credits also include episodes of Army Wives, Happy Endings and The Mentalist, is repped by APA, Intellectual Artists Management and Jackoway Tyerman. She joins a cast that also includes Will Rotthaar (Battle: Los Angeles), Josh Salatin (The Carrie Diaries), Alano Miller (Damages) and Mykelti Williamson (Justified).
