LONDON – Pay TV entertainment channel Fox U.K., part of Fox International Channels, has ordered its first-ever British production in the form of nine-hour series Meet The Russians.
Billed as a fly-on-the-wall documentary, the Fox show promises to provide access to the world of select, super-wealthy Russians, Ukrainians and other post-Soviets living in London.
The show is part of a push by Fox International Channels to develop the production of non-scripted content.
These series is the first European commission solely-produced by U.K. production teams in the channel’s history and will be rolled out first on Fox U.K. and later across other FIC’s entertainment channels.
According to Fox data, there are an estimated 300,000 Russians living in the British capital and much has been written and reported in the mainstream media about the superwealthy.
Viewers are being promised “a captivating cast of characters” with incredible life stories including a mega-rich financier turned art collector, the “Russian Victoria Beckham” and her footballer husband, and a Russian supermodel.
It will also feature Ukrainian pop star and former Mrs World Kamaliya, and her steel billionaire husband Zahoor.
Fox evp content Europe and managing director U.K. Africa Jason Thorp said the shows will be debuted in the U.K. before unspooling on other Fox channels in Europe “giving the production an extended visibility that not only will extend our audience’s potential but to show the quality of the UK independent production.”
Meet The Russians is produced by Ricochet, part of the U,K. based production stable Shed Media.
The series was commissioned by Nicole Streak, commissioning editor – factual entertainment FIC Europe.
FIC is part of 21st Century Fox’s multi-media business and develops, produces and distributes 300 wholly- and majority-owned entertainment, factual, sports and movie channels across Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa, in 44 languages.
