Big Light Productions, the indie banner of The Man in the High Castle and The X-Files creator Frank Spotnitz, has named Oliver Lang as COO.
Based at Big Light’s London headquarters, Lang will oversee the company’s operations, strategic partnerships and financing for drama projects.
Lang has more than 20 years of experience in the TV industry, including a spell at BBC Worldwide, where he oversaw investment in U.K. production companies, including Lookout Point, Baby Cow, Clerkenwell, Original Talent and 72 Films. Prior to that, he was the BBC’s head of operations and business affairs for factual commissioning, responsible for a commissioning business delivering 2,000 hours of original productions a year.
“Oliver possesses a wealth of experience, incredible strategic know-how and deeply held relationships in the industry,” said Spotnitz. “He’s a huge asset, and I’m thrilled he’s putting his strengths to work for Big Light.”
Added Lang: “I’m delighted to be joining Frank and the team at Big Light. I love the ambition of their shows and the richness of their slate, and I’m looking forward to scaling new heights with them.”
Lang will also continue as managing director of Sharp Edge Media, the TV consultancy company he founded earlier this year.
Based in London and Paris, Big Light’s projects include Emmy Award-winning Amazon drama series The Man in the High Castle, now in its fourth season; Ransom, now in its third season for CBS and Canada’s Global; Medici: Masters of Florence and two seasons of Medici: The Magnificent, both for RAI and Netflix; and The Indian Detective, for Netflix.
