ABC’s resurrected ‘TGIF’ brand didn’t draw too many people on Friday as Fresh Off the Boat, Speechless and Child Support pulled in modest ratings.
Fox’s Last Man Standing, meanwhile, fell half a point from its premiere but remained Friday’s top show among adults 18-49.
Fresh Off the Boat (0.6 in the demo) and Speechless (0.5) both premiered considerably lower than their 2017-18 averages (1.0 and 1.1) — as would be expected with a move to Fridays. The ABC comedies finished third in the 8 p.m. hour, behind Fox’s comedy block and CBS’ MacGyver (0.7, unchanged from its premiere last week). They did, however, improve a bit on Once Upon a Time‘s 0.5 in the same spot a year ago.
Child Support, meanwhile, managed just a 0.4 at 9 p.m., 43 percent below its 2017-18 average.
Last Man Standing was off about 28 percent from its premiere, but Friday’s 1.3 is still a bit ahead of the show’s last full season on ABC (1.2 in 2016-17). The Cool Kids slipped 27 percent from 1.5 to 1.1, but still showed solid retention out of Last Man Standing. Hell’s Kitchen was fairly steady at 0.8.
On CBS, Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods each came in at 0.8, off a tenth from their premieres.
Dateline recorded a 0.6 for NBC.
Masters of Illusion finished its season on The CW with a 0.2, in line with its average.
Fox’s 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demo led the night and is the network’s second highest-rated Friday (excluding sports) in two years, after last week. CBS came in second at 0.8, and ABC and NBC tied for third at 0.5. The CW trailed at 0.2.
