When the walls of Qarth opened for Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her shrinking band of loyalists, it probably saved all of their lives — but it likely didn’t do much to cheer up Irri (Amrita Acharia).
“It’s their salvation,” Acharia tells The Hollywood Reporter, who’s played the Dothraki handmaiden since the series’ second episode. “They’ve gone from this massive kingdom to this straggled group of survivors… but I think in terms of Irri, it’s going further and further away of being Dothraki and almost losing her identity in a way. The Dothranki are a proud people, so it’s going to be tough for her. I don’t think the Dothraki are adaptable.”

Losing Rakharo (Elyes Gabel) at the beginning of the second season and nearly dying out in the Red Waste, it would be understandable if Irri was also questioning Daenerys’ leadership. Acharia says that’s not even a possibility.
“I don’t think it’s affected her loyalty to Dany,” she says. “It would take a lot to shake that, but I think it’s definitely shaken her spirits slightly. She’s had a rough ride lately.”
As rough as it’s been for her alter ego, Acharia seemed to like filming the darker storylines of the second season more than the first.
“I loved looking like a dirty little street child,” she says. “Croatia is amazing, and their story is getting more interesting. It was fun to have a different environment to be in and to go back to work with the series being such a success.”

That location, however, has kept Acharia incredibly far removed from the rest of the series. But with absolutely no crossover with the Westeros storylines to date, she does have dreams for unlikely interactions with the rest of the cast.
“I love Joffrey [Jack Gleeson],” she says, laughing. “I think he’s fantastic. It’s just so juicy, and I think that would be fun if they met… I actually think she might have a little respect for how powerful he is. Irri doesn’t really like to take shit from anyone, so I’m not sure how she’d react.”
