George R.R. Martin knows how to throw a fundraiser.
The author of A Game of Thrones teamed with the minor league baseball team Staten Island Yankees (temporarily renamed the Direwolves) for a special game on Saturday.
The event drew Game of Thrones fanatics to the stadium, with fans already lining up hours before the stadium opened. Martin signed books brought by the first 400 fans in line, and fans received free hats with a Staten Island Direwolves logo.
Martin took the field with a wolf to speak to the crowd, who cheered for the Direwolves as they battled the Hudson Valley Renegades (renamed for the night the Lannister Lions). Both teams had theme songs from the HBO hit, which is expected to debut season six next spring.
