In Game of Thrones season five, the stakes are higher and the dragons are bigger.
The stars revealed secrets from the anticipated season during its premiere Monday, which brought Westeros to San Francisco.
When viewers last saw Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), she made the painful decision to lock away her dragons Viserion and Rhaegal after Drogon went rogue and ate a young girl. Drogon remains at large, but that may be a shortlived absence.

“It’s a dragon season, so they are definitely making a couple of appearances,” Clarke told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve lost one, so we’ll have to see if I can find him again.”
Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) had the most explosive arc of season four. He went from being wrongfully convicted of Joffrey’s (Jack Gleeson) murder to killing his father Tywin (Charles Dance) and lover Shae (Sibel Kekilli). In the season finale, Varys (Conleth Hill) spirited Tyrion away from King’s Landing, becoming complicit in his crimes.
Varys has made it clear he thinks Tyrion has the wits to save the Seven Kingdoms. But is that even something Tyrion would be interested in?
“He has to find his footing again. He doesn’t care about much of anything when you see him at the start,” said Dinklage. “He has to find his mojo once more, and Varys helps him down that road.”

“No interruptions will be tolerated. So please, take this opportunity to silence our phones. Should your phone ring during our screening, you will be executed,” Varys said.
Showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss also spoke, thinking back to five years ago when they were screening their pilot for HBO execs. They tried to imagine what their lives would be like had that screening not gone well.
“I’d probably be buying toilet paper for Glen Frey of The Eagles again,” said Weiss, who was for a time a personal assistant to the musician. Benioff, a former New York City English Teacher, would probably be teaching seventh grade again. They also imagined alternate paths for their stars. Peter Dinklage: “prison.” Kit Harington (Jon Snow): “Jimmy Choo spokesmodel,” (which he actually is).
The showrunners also gave a shout out to Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, who was in the audience.
“We try to imagine what our lives would be like without your books, and the thought is even more terrifying than the things that happen in your books,” said Weiss.
