Jon Snow might be dead, but his presence continues to hang heavy over Westeros.
HBO has unleashed a new teaser for the sixth season of Game of Thrones, which will premiere in the spring. Just as the first poster for the new season featured Kit Harington’s heroic Night’s Watch soldier shrouded in shadows and blood, he stands tall once again in the new spot, as Max von Sydow’s Three-Eyed Raven provides haunting, ominous words.
“We watch, we listen, and we remember,” says the Three-Eyed Raven over an image of Jon’s shell-shocked face from season five’s “Hardhome.”
“The past is already written,” he continues. “The ink is dry.”
From there, the teaser cuts away from Jon and presents quick glimpses at some of the most famous tragedies in Thrones lore, from Eddard Stark’s beheading to Jaime Lannister’s behanding to a blood-covered Jon Snow lying in the snow.
Finally, a face viewers have not seen in over a season comes into focus: Bran Stark, last seen under the tutelage of the Raven, his eyes rolled back into his head, all white — the mark of his magical power.
“They have no idea what is going to happen,” we hear Bran whisper.
It’s an appropriate final line, given that season six of Game of Thrones marks the first time the HBO show will tell stories set in Westeros that A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has yet to write — or, at least, to publish.
Game of Thrones returns in April.
