The 998th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, stabbed numerous times by his own traitorous subordinates in the season five finale of Game of Thrones, is little more than a cold piece of meat, albeit one with really good hair, come the sixth season of the show — at least to start. If Jon’s death wasn’t clear in the finale, it became clearer in HBO’s rollout ahead of the new season, full-length trailer and premiere synopsis included.
Now, the first official clip from the season — which was revealed by Liam Cunningham on Conan on Thursday — further solidifies the fallen Lord Commander’s current lifeless state. The clip expands on the great closing moments of the season six trailer, in which former Baratheon loyalist Davos Seaworth grabs Jon Snow’s Valyrian sword Longclaw and warns a group of surrounding Brothers in Black that he’s “never been much of a fighter … apologies for what you’re about to see.”

At the time of the trailer, it was unclear whether or not Davos was about to fight the men in the room, or if they were helping him protect Snow’s corpse. The clip backs up the latter option, as main mutineer Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale) and his fellows start breaking into the chamber by force. The clip concludes before they fully breach the room, before the drawn swords on both sides of the conflict meet — and well before we can confirm for ourselves if Davos has anything worth apologizing over after all.
