The pairing of a demonic interdimensional worm and George Lopez might not seem immediately obvious, but the comedian and talk-show host’s Travieso Production Company has paired with the recently launched IDW Entertainment to bring the horror comedy Wormwood to television screens.
Wormwood, created by Ben Templesmith, originally appeared in the pages of the short-lived LOFI magazine in 2004 before receiving its own series from IDW Publishing two years later. The title character is a “trans-dimensional demigod worm” who has a tendency to save the world from supernatural trouble by possessing well-dressed corpses and, for the most part, out-thinking whatever threats come his way.

The series is being developed by IDW, Travieso and Circle of Confusion, the management and production company also involved with AMC’s The Walking Dead and the Playstation series adapted from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming‘s Powers comic book series.
“It’s not often I can produce a series about an interdimensional worm. I am thrilled to be working with such a great creative team on this clever combination of comedy and horror,” George Lopez said in a statement accompanying the announcement of the project, which will be developed as an animated property before being marketed to networks.
The Simpsons writer David M. Stern will write the pilot and serve as an executive producer on the series alongside Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW, Lopez and Leslie Kolins Small from Travieso, and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs from Circle of Confusion. Ben Templesmith will serve as a creative consultant on the project.
