George Lopez has been tapped to host Fox’s new dating series Take Me Out.
Based on the international format, Take Me Out — premiering at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 7 — is a fast-paced show centered on 30 female contestants searching for a match and single men who are tasked to make a first impression.
“I am thrilled to be hosting such an entertaining new series,” said Lopez. “Anything can happen on a show like Take Me Out, and I’m looking forward to the excitement.”
Said executive producer Jeff Apploff. “George’s amazing energy, spirit and incredible comedic timing make him the perfect host for Take Me Out.”
The show is filmed in front of a studio audience and consists of four rounds. It begins with a group of 30 women trying to find their match. Every week, they have one-on-ones with potential matches, and afterward, each woman stands at a podium with a switch that controls her fate for a date. When more women lose interest, the bachelor eliminates the ones he is not interested in. In the final round, he will ask one last question to the two remaining women and chooses who he would like to have on a date.
Lopez hosted TBS’ Lopez Tonight from November 2009 to August 2011, when the cable network canceled the hourlong talker months after Conan O’Brien‘s show Conan launched.
