Reality TV is about to make way for yet another singing legend. Seven-time Grammy Award winner Gladys Knight, the “Empress of Soul,” will serve as the lead judge on the new series Apollo Live.
Knight is neither a novice to the stage nor to reality television. The Mowtown diva recently competed on ABC’s 14th season of Dancing With the Stars.

As a judge on Apollo Live, Knight will sit alongside previously announced judges Doug E. Fresh and Michael Bivins of New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe on Centric, BET’s sister network. Centric announced Wednesday that Knight has signed up for the series, which is set to debut this fall. Jamie Foxx, Marcus King and Don Weiner are the show’s executive producers.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tony Rock, Apollo Live is a singing competition that will be held at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York and aims to shake up the venue’s established and highly popular “Amateur Night” showcase. Centric has yet to determine the reward for the series’ winner.
