Cast members from Glee will reunite publicly for the first time since the death of actress Naya Rivera as part of a special tribute to the legacy of her character Santana Lopez.
The gathering, during the 32nd annual GLAAD Media Awards, will coincide with the 10-year anniversary of Lopez’s coming out as a lesbian on the Fox series as a way to spotlight the groundbreaking storyline.
Demi Lovato, who played Santana’s girlfriend, is confirmed to introduce the tribute that will feature Glee stars Jacob Artist, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Vanessa Lengies, Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Alex Newell, Amber Riley, Harry Shum Jr., Becca Tobin and Jenna Ushkowitz.
As announced, Niecy Nash is hosting the awards telecast, scheduled for April 8 and debuting on GLAAD’s YouTube page followed by a Hulu premiere later that night. Special guests include Katy Perry, Ian Alexander, Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bennett, Bob the Drag Queen, Sterling K. Brown, Laverne Cox, Wilson Cruz, Mackenzie Davis, Nyle DiMarco, Colman Domingo, Clea DuVall, Dan Levy, Jim Parsons, Shangela, Anthony Rapp, JoJo Siwa, Sam Smith, and the cast of Veneno. Rivera passed away July 8, 2020, during a tragic accident on Lake Piru in Ventura County, Calif. Some of her Glee castmates reunited in the spring on an April installment of the virtual pandemic series Stars in the House. The GLAAD Media Awards appearance will be their first on a major broadcast since Rivera’s passing. The series aired from 2009 through 2015.
