“Glee” creator Ryan Murphy says he’s talking to Britney Spears about devoting an episode to the pop icon on an upcoming episode of the Fox hit.
During a Hollywood Reporter interview Tuesday, Murphy was asked about online speculation that “Glee” could center an episode around Spears.
Like the show’s “Power of Madonna” episode last season, where the cast just paid homage to the Material Girl’s music, the idea is that Spears would license her song for the show.
“I’m talking to Britney,” Murphy said. “We’re talking about it. I don’t know if I’m going to do it or not. But the tone of it is so different from Madonna because all the musical numbers are fantasies. So it could work if I can make it work. I’m not sure.”
At Comic-Com on Sunday, Murphy also confirmed “Glee” would have a second Madonna episode. The first was a ratings smash, drawing 13.5 million viewers and a 5.3 rating in the adult demo.
“We are doing another Madonna episode,” Murphy said. “It will probably be later in the season. It’s like we run in a pattern where we’ll do one that is just sort of a regular journeyman episode, that’s sort of like comedy and also drama. And then we’ll do one that’s just crazy, spectacular big, which is Britney or Madonna. And then right after that, we’ll do one that rips your heart out. And the first three back (this fall) are very similar to [the more emotional ones].”
The rest of Murphy’s interview will be in THR’s Emmy Preview issue, which publishes the Thursday before the primetime Emmy telecast.
