‘Glee’: Eight Spoilers to Look Out for in Seasons 2 and 3

As the cast and executive producers of Glee took their places onstage at PaleyFest last night, it was a surreal moment for the audience and the team behind the hit Fox show.

Just the night before, fans had watched the episode, “Original Song,” where part of it  was shot on the very stage they were on.

“I’m still kind of freaking out, ‘cause we did it right here,” actor Cory Monteith said.

Jane Lynch pointed out the spot on the stage where her character punched one of the Regionals judges, joking, “My career peaked at that moment.”

During the penultimate PaleyFest panel this year, the Glee team entertained a full house, sharing stories about moments on set, revealing their takes on several of the relationships in the show and divulging plenty of juicy spoilers for what’s to come in the rest of Season 2 and in the upcoming third season.

Eight juicy spoilers

1. Kurt will return to McKinley High this season: Chris Colfer let slip that Kurt’s time at Dalton Academy is coming to an end. When asked about Kurt spending much of the season away from McKinley and New Directions, Colfer said, “I felt exactly what Kurt felt: I was missing my friends but making new ones. Those Warbler guys are so great. We have a great time, and I’m going to miss them horribly. But I’m excited to be back.” As the crowd realized what that meant, there was silence in theater, then murmurings among the crowd, followed by laughter as Colfer realized what he had done. Soon the crowd’s screams built to a roaring cheer for Kurt’s return to their favorite show choir.

2. Blaine may audition for New Directions: No need to worry that Kurt leaving Dalton means bad news for the show’s newest couple. “In Season 3, Blaine might have to try out for New Directions,” Ryan Murphy said.

3. The Warblers are sticking around: The Dalton Academy Warblers may be out of the competition this year, but they’ll still grace fans with their catchy a cappella songs. Said Murphy: “We’re doing a prom episode, and I think the Warblers have to perform at prom.”

4. Rumours tribute is in the works: “We’ve always wanted to do an episode that is not a tribute to a musical act but to an album,” Murphy said. “And one of the albums that we all three love is Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. … You watch the show with everybody with each other, then breaking up – it’s like the making of the Rumours album!” The co-creator explained that now that the show has the power to get Stevie Nicks on the phone, “We’re getting a Rumours episode.”

5. Favorite guest stars will return: Nationals will see the return of Charice as Sunshine, Kristin Chenoweth will be back and Paltrow’s Holly Holliday will get closer to Will.

6. Brittany gets athletic: Heather Morris told THR on the press line that Brittany will join the decathlon team in an upcoming episode.

7. Quinn’s baby just might make an appearance: Brad Falchuk assured fans that Quinn and Puck’s baby is “living happily with her mom, Shelby.” The producer pointed out that baby Beth’s first birthday is in June, then left fans this tease: “So, we’ll see…”

8. Summer tour will showcase mostly Season 2 songs: “I think it will be 80 percent second season,” Murphy said. Some Season 1 favorites will find their way into the concert too. “Cory never did ‘Jesse’s Girl’ [in last summer’s tour]. I think that’s one people would love to see,” Murphy said. The summer tour kicks off May 21 in Las Vegas.

Five on-set moments

1. The most difficult number to film: Co-creator Ryan Murphy said filming “Umbrella/Singing in the Rain” was “a nightmare,” but he was quick to praise Matthew Morrison and Gwyneth Paltrow’s performances in the number. Monteith had fonder memories of the shoot: “It got to the point where we were just kicking water at each other. The whole goal was just to get each other soaked.” Amber Riley was quick to correct: “No, the boys’ goal.”

2. Kurt as Gaga: Colfer admitted that walking in Lady Gaga-inspired heels for last season’s “Theatricality” was no easy task. “I’ve never felt such physical pain in my life. I swear it’s only second to childbirth,” he joked. He explained that he wore training heels while rehearsing. “Everyone was giving me a hard time cause I had these training heels, but even when they put me on tour, I never fell once,” he said.

3. Stevie Nicks on set: The Fleetwood Mac singer visited the cast when they filmed the “Landslide” performance. Naya Rivera said, “We were just really honored to have her there and be performing that song in front of her. It was one of those moments in life that I know I can remember forever and tell my children about.” Morris told THR on the carpet that singing the song and meeting Nicks was particularly special for her because “Stevie Nicks is my mom’s favorite artist. So it was a really cool, big deal for my mom.”

4. Filming at the Gap: The Dalton Academy Warbler’s performance of “When I Get You Alone” in the Feb. 8 episode was shot in the Gap store at The Grove. Executive producer Dante di Loreto said of the shoot, “That was a challenge because we’d never shot a location like that before.” They filmed the episode a week before Christmas. “All night long they had to redress the store and take out all the Christmas decorations,” he said.

5. Morrison and Paltrow’s tango: Filming last week’s episode was the first time Morrison and Paltrow tried to tango, and Morrison said that any clumsiness they had only added to the steamy number: “It was challenging because it was those kicks that happened in this area,” he said, pointing to his inner thighs. “She was just really nervous to kick my man love. And she kicked it a couple of times. … I got kicked in the balls by Gwyneth Paltrow!”

Seven thoughts on the show’s relationships

1. Kurt and Blaine: The crowd was excited for Blaine and Kurt’s long-awaited kiss in Tuesday’s episode. Colfer told THR that fans “went nuts. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced something quite that huge. They made little icons and pictures of [the scene].” Darren Criss said filming the kiss “was easy for us because the relationship, the foundation for it was laid out so well to the point where a moment like that was so easy to fall into.”

2. Finn and Rachel: “There are a lot of people who really, really want Finn and Rachel to be together, but I think it’s really interesting when they’re clearly in love with each other but they’re apart,” Monteith said. “I think it makes for good television.”

3. Brittany and Santana: Rivera said the positive response following Santana’s declaration of love for Brittany has been “really overwhelming and really humbling. … A lot of people said that scene gave them courage to come out to their parents and friends and loved ones, so I think it’s something that’s very important.” What does Rivera want for the pair in future episodes? “I’d probably get her pregnant,” she joked before saying, “I feel like Santana should be with her just cause she’s been so damn sad, and that’s not her.” But executive producer Falchuk said that getting Santana and Brittany together isn’t a priority: “We have an amazing character on a top show of television who’s lesbian, and whether she’s dating someone or not is not really what we’re getting at. We’re trying to focus more on what it means to be that character in a high school in Ohio right now.”

4. Brittany and Artie: Not getting quite the positive response Rivera did after last week’s episode, Kevin McHale said he’s gotten tweets that say, “Stay away from Brittany!” He said he’s telling fans, “I get it, but I’m not Artie!”

5. Will and Emma: Will Schuester has had his fair share of women on the show, but fans learned that Morrison is a Willma shipper: “They’re star-crossed lovers – there’s just something that’s so great about their relationship, and I think people really want it, and I really want it. I want it for Will, and they deserve each other. They would complement each other and help each other so much.”

6. Mercedes and …?: Oxygen’s The Glee Project, which is searching for the next Glee guest star and premieres in June, may be the perfect opportunity to find a man for Mercedes. “The talent on it is really, really amazing, and one of the things that’s always in the back of my mind is ‘How would that guy be with Amber?,’ ” Murphy said. Falchuk noted, “Finding someone who can keep up with Amber is kind of tricky.”

7. Kurt and Burt: Murphy weighed in on fans’ favorite father-son relationship on the show: “That relationship was always very personal for me. I look at it as ‘I wish my dad had done that.’ … I’m sort of little Kurt.”
