ABC’s The Goldbergs has finalized its big season-three homage.
After taking on Goonies and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, season three will pay tribute to Dirty Dancing, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The annual tribute episode — known as “Adam’s Folly” in a nod to showrunner Adam F. Goldberg — will likely air in the back half of the season. (Last season’s tribute aired in February.)

“Dirty Dancing is a huge ‘80s cultural touchstone — the music, the memorable lines, and of course, [Patrick] Swayze. No one loved it more than my mom. I’ll always remember how she dragged me to see it in the theaters several times and then bought it on video,” said Goldberg. “I knew this was our big movie to explore this season when all of the writers on the show also had their very own Dirty Dancing memories from years ago. It really is a gem of the ‘80s, and it’s so exciting to bring it to life with my amazing cast.”
While plot details about the episode are slim, the seemingly obvious choice is to put Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey) in Baby’s proverbial corner.

The annual tribute episode started in season one with Goonies, which Goldberg said he had wanted to do ever since he first pitched the show. The writers initially balked at the idea and tried to convince him not to do it — giving birth to the annual tribute’s nickname of Adam’s Folly. It has since become an annual event on the show.
The Goldbergs‘ big Dirty Dancing tribute episode comes as ABC is also plotting a TV movie musical remake of the 1987 feature that starred Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Abigail Breslin is set to take on Grey’s role as Baby.
