After accidentally getting thrown back in time, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) didn't rely on the strength of men to keep her alive – she adapted, and proved her worth via her medical skills. Sure, she was forced to get married to Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) in order to use the law to keep herself out of the sadistic Captain Black Jack Randall's (Tobias Menzies) hands, but she also used her brain, her courage and her own strength to save Jamie from Black Jack later. She also taught the men of the 1700s a little modern feminism to boot, which was no easy task for a sassenach.

To say 2015 was a year of change for the Golden Globes would be an understatement.
Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu dominated the TV side as 2015 was a big season for newcomers, according to the HFPA.
Rookie series American Crime, Mr. Robot and Outlander joined last year’s leader Fargo at the top along with Transparent and Wolf Hall.
On the network side, Netflix topped stalwart HBO for the lead and 20th Century Fox Television, thanks to American Horror Story as well as newcomers The Grinder and Scream Queens, led the studio pack.
Here’s a look at the nominations by series, network and studio.
