Following a months-long dealmaking process, Fox has picked up a pilot based on author Dennis Lehane’s 1998 book Gone Baby Gone and the subsequent 2007 feature film.
Robert Levine (Black Sails, Touch, Human Target, Judging Amy) penned the script and will executive produce the untitled project. Miramax Television, whose film arm produced the Casey Affleck starrer co-written and directed by Ben Affleck, will co-produce the potential TV series with 20th Century Fox Television. Lehane will be an exec producer on Fox’s untitled drama, which revolves around private detectives Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro who, armed with their wits, street knowledge and undeniable chemistry, right the wrongs that the law can’t in a working-class Boston borough of Dorchester.
Gone Baby Gone starred Casey Affleck (as Patrick) and Michelle Monaghan (as Angie) as two private investigators hunting for a little girl who was abducted from a Boston neighborhood. Produced with a $19 million budget, the film went on to gross $34.6 million worldwide, with co-star Amy Ryan earning an Oscar nomination for her supporting turn.

This is Fox’s fifth drama pilot order of the season and first from an outside producer (or in this case, co-producer in Miramax). The network is also readying musical drama Mixtape, a wrongful conviction legal drama from Empire‘s Danny Strong; an FBI drama from Empire‘s Ilene Chaiken and Melissa Scrivner Love; and genre entry The Passage, which is being redeveloped from last season.
The Gone Baby Gone project is the latest reboot to score a pilot pickup this season. Reboots remain in high demand as broadcast, cable and streaming outlets look for established formats in a bid to cut through a cluttered landscape expected to top 500 scripted originals this year. Key to the reboots is having the original producers involved in some capacity, which this one has with Miramax and the author. It is Fox’s first reboot of the season and joins ABC’s Get Christie Love and The Greatest American Hero; CBS’ Cagney & Lacey, Magnum P.I. and Murphy Brown; NBC’s Bad Boys spinoff; and The CW’s Charmed and Roswell.
