Freddie Highmore is now on call for more than just The Good Doctor at Sony Pictures Television. The 26-year-old actor has signed a two-year overall deal with the studio behind his hit ABC drama.
Under the pact, Highmore will develop scripted projects at the studio through at least 2020, working on potential series for broadcast, cable, streaming services and international co-production. The projects will be made under his shingle Alfresco Pictures.
“Freddie is an outstanding actor and we are incredibly proud of his work on The Good Doctor,” Jeff Frost, Chris Parnell and Jason Clodfelter, president and co-presidents of Sony Pictures Television, respectively, said Monday in a joint statement. “We recognize his passion, creativity and are thrilled to expand our relationship with him and his production company Alfresco Pictures.”
The Good Doctor, which earned Highmore a Golden Globe nomination for his work on the first season, quickly became a huge commercial success. It averaged a 3.4 rating among adults 18-49 and pulled in an average 15.6 million viewers after seven days of delayed viewing. The series also marks Highmore’s first gig as a producer.
The second season of The Good Doctor is set to premiere Sept. 24. The upcoming run will also find Highmore, who is repped by UTA, ARG & Fred Tozcek, taking on his first time directing.
