The tug of war between Good Morning America and Today continues to pull in ABC’s favor, as fast national numbers for the week of July 9 push GMA closer to a demo victory than its been in 17 years.

Preliminary Nielsen data for last week — Savannah Guthrie‘s first as official co-host of Today — a clear victory to GMA among total viewers (4.57 million over Today’s 4.213 million) and a loss in the key adults 25-54 demo of just 2,000.
Today continued to best GMA in the coveted group, with 1.711 million over 1.709 million. GMA‘s margin of victory over Today in total viewers also ranks as its biggest win in 17 years.

Notching four consecutive daily victories last week, GMA‘s viewership was only eclipsed by Today‘s on Friday.
GMA has been outperforming Today in total viewers for the last two weeks in a row after tying the NBC series during Ann Curry‘s final week.
