“Everything is going to be OK.”
That was the message The Good Wife star Josh Charles made to mourning fans on CBS’ Late Show on Monday, when he sat down with David Letterman to discuss his character’s bombshell death less than 24 hours earlier.

Charles said it was “amazing” that everyone involved was “able to keep this secret for an entire year,” revealing that he “told some family members that I know can keep a secret — which is very few.” The actor, who played attorney Will Gardner, recalled receiving a “beautiful note” from his neighbors across the street (“who I don’t know”) earlier that day that said, ” ‘We feel like a family member had died. We know it’s just a TV show.’ I gotta say I was touched by it. A lot of the response on Twitter has been much the same.”

“It’s what you gotta do to get on the Letterman show,” Charles joked after Letterman opened their sit-down with a boisterous, “You got killed off!” Echoing earlier sentiments, Charles explained that he was “ready to kind of move on” at the end of last season, agreeing to a 15-episode arc to give his character a proper goodbye.
Asked about his next move: “Oh, I have no plan.”
