With a record-setting 11 series currently in production and three pilots in the works, Greg Berlanti Productions is adding to its staff.
The Warner Bros. Television-based production company has enlisted former CBS Television Studios exec Karyn Smith-Forge as senior vp production, while also promoting Jimmy Gibbons to director of production.
“Karyn’s creativity, passion, intelligence and kindness is admired by people throughout the industry and we couldn’t feel more excited or lucky to have her join our company,” Berlanti said. “She is the perfect individual to help and work with all of our amazing showrunners as they continue to craft shows we are all incredibly proud of.”
Smith-Forge, who exited her role as CBS TV Studios’ senior vp cable programming in April to return to the agent world at Verve, will now oversee all of Berlanti Productions’ TV series in production. She will work closely with the showrunners of each series — including The CW’s The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Riverdale, Supergirl, Black Lightning, NBC’s Blindspot, Lifetime’s You, ABC’s Deception, DC Digital’s Titans and Netflix’s Sabrina — to hire directors and writers and facilitate production of the shows.
“I am beyond thrilled to be joining the group at Berlanti Productions,” Smith-Forge said. “I’ve admired this company and the people within it for several years. What they’ve been able to achieve in such a short amount of time is simply phenomenal. Not only are they incredibly prolific producers with great creative instincts and a wide range of programming, but they are also fantastic people. That I have this opportunity to join their ranks is truly exciting on both a creative and personal level.”
With the Sabrina order, Berlanti made history with the most scripted series currently in the works (11). The company also has three pilots (so far) in contention this pilot season: ABC comedy Most Likely To, CBS drama God Friended Me and The CW’s Spencer. The company is headed by president of production Sarah Schechter and vp development Ryan Lindenberg.
Smith-Forge was at Verve for less than a year. She started her career as a TV lit agent at Endeavor before moving to Fox Television Studios as vp programming. She had been with CBS Television Studios for five years, working in the drama department.
Gibbons, meanwhile, started his career in 2013 in WME’s lit department before joining Berlanti Productions as Berlanti’s assistant. This is his first executive post.
