NEW DELHI — HBO Asia and Eros International Media on Wednesday announced the launch of HBO Defined and HBO Hits in India. This follows the December announcement of a strategic tie-up between the broadcaster and the Indian film entity to launch two new premium advertising-free movie channels. The channels are available on leading direct-to-home services Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV.
HBO Defined will offer the latest Hollywood and Bollywood blockbusters (sourced from Eros’ catalog, which includes more than 1,000 titles) and award-winning HBO Originals. HBO Hits will offer entertainment content including HBO Original series such as Veep, Game of Thrones, True Blood and Boardwalk Empire.
“The launch of HBO Defined and HBO Hits on Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV will reach out to a wide network of subscribers all over India,” HBO Asia CEO Jonathan Spink said. “Subscribers in India will be able to enjoy a firs- class cinema experience that is 100 percent advertising-free in the comfort of their own home.”
Added Eros International Media executive director Jyoti Deshpande: “We are confident that our compelling and unique content offering of Bollywood and Hollywood plus an advertising-free viewing experience will make this an instant hit with subscribers.”
As announced earlier, the HBO-Eros alliance will also provide for the development of both HBO’s existing formats for India as well as the creation of original content for the Indian television market and international distribution.
