HBO has found a new marketing head.
The cable network has promoted Chris Spadaccini into the role of executive vice president of consumer marketing. He replaces Pam Levine, who left HBO in Sept. to join 20th Century Fox. In his new position, Spadaccini will be responsible for overseeing marketing for both HBO and Cinemax. He’ll direct all branding efforts, provide oversight for program marketing campaigns and guide digital platform marketing efforts.
“Chris has worked across all aspects of Consumer and Product Marketing and has been instrumental in evolving HBO’s brand marketing strategy and network identity. He played a pivotal role in the launch of both HBO GO and HBO NOW, helped guide the marketing strategy of our digital platforms and developed campaigns for some of the network’s most iconic shows,” said HBO executive vp Scott McElhone, to whom Spadaccini will report. “It is an impressive body of experience and makes him the ideal executive to lead the continued evolution of the network’s marketing efforts.”
Previously, Spadaccini served as exec vp of brand and product marketing since June 2015, where he was responsible for heading up the development and execution of brand marketing campaigns for HBO and Cinemax. He started out at HBO in 1999 in the program advertising area. There, he worked his way up from manager to senior vp of the department.
During his tenure at HBO, he’s overseen some of the network’s most high-profile marketing campaigns from Game of Thrones to Entourage to The Sopranos. Before he moved over to the cable network, Spadaccini worked at VH1 for a year, where he assisted in the development of consumer and trade marketing campaigns. He began his career at PMK/HBH in 1996, where he helped develop national publicity campaigns for high profile celebrities and corporate clients in entertainment.
