HBO’s pilot Run has found its director in Emmy nominee Kate Dennis.
Dennis, who earned an Emmy nod in 2017 for directing The Handmaid’s Tale‘s season one episode “The Bridge,” will also be an executive producer on the pilot.
Created by Vicky Jones (Fleabag) and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Killing Eve, Fleabag), the eOne-produced Run centers on Ruby (Merritt Wever), a woman living a “humdrum existence” who one day gets a text that invites her to fulfill a long-ago pact that promises “true love and self-reinvention” — if she will go on a journey with her “oldest flame.”
The pilot also stars Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), a “successful life guru” from a wealthy family who has a wealth of charisma and deep need for approval. Waller-Bridge will have a recurring part, playing a character named Flick.
Jones wrote the pilot and will be the showrunner. She executive produces with Waller-Bridge, Dennis and Emily Leo.
Dennis directed and executive produced the pilot for NBC’s New Amsterdam (and also helmed its fourth episode), which recently earned a full-season pickup. She’s also directed episodes of GLOW, The Mindy Project, The Tick and Preacher, among others.
Dennis is repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment and RGM in Australia.
