Q: Which network was not mentioned during Neil Patrick Harris’ opening song that listed a flurry of Emmy telecast rival networks?
A: The one nominated for 99 Emmy Awards.
HBO insiders were irked Sunday night after the Emmys’ opening song ran down a dizzying array of alternate viewing choices. The song, “Put Down the Remote,” was accompanied by network logos being displayed about the Emmy stage.
HBO was nominated for 99 awards this year. Having won 21, the network otherwise doesn’t have much else to complain about last night. Also, the network’s after party at the Pacific Design Center was stellar even by HBO standards, with a baroque “True Blood” theme, lavish buffet spreads and entertainingly theatrical cover band.
When asked why the most-honored TV network was left off the list, one Emmy insider joked, “it’s not TV, it’s HBO.”
